What a fabulous time I had at BooksNJ, one of the state’s largest celebrations of reading and writing! In addition to conducting Facebook Live interviews with various Garden State authors and literary leaders for HipNewJersey.com, I also served as a panelist in the festival’s Labeling Fiction tent.
The coolest part about speaking to over a dozen authors from all different genres and walks of life is discovering how much we actually have in common. The highs, lows and overall publishing process is the same whether you crafted a children’s book or penned a medical thriller. Writing is a beautiful yet reclusive process, and it’s comforting to share these experiences with people who “get it.”
My panel was called “A Love Affair with Words: The Romance Novel” with Roz Lee and moderated by SiriusXM’s Marissa Rives. Roz and I quickly developed a good chemistry despite our take on “romance” being verrrry different–while Ten Years Later could be dubbed No Sex and the City, Roz’s prose is Fifty Shades of Grey meets Yankee Stadium. (On second thought, maybe our books do have a little more in common than what meets the eye!) Marissa and I (and Carla) also had a lot in common thanks to our shared background working in sports radio; Marissa serves as executive producer of SiriusXM Rush 93, a channel focused on combat sports and entertainment.

And finally, big props have to go to the borough of Paramus, New Jersey for hosting such a great day. Mayor Richard LaBarbiera told #HipNJ viewers how proud he was of this event and his town:
See you in 2019!
